Bringx Founder, Claire Canyon Is Helping Shoppers Get Local Sustainable Produce By Tapping Into Family Farms And Wholesale Pricing

Claire Canyon is a young entrepreneur and founder of Bringx, an LA based grocery delivery startup that allows people to get local farm-fresh foods delivered to their door at wholesale prices. Right now her company works with 50 local farms in southern California and is actively working to expand its reach among consumers that care about sustainability and health.

How did you get the idea for the company?

Growing up, both my parents have always taught me to eat lots of fruits and veggies every day. However, both of them have also been working long hours with a small paycheck. So oftentimes we just end up eating frozen dumplings or cheap Chinese takeouts to save time and money. I knew there must be other families experiencing the same problem. We wanted an easy way to put good fresh foods on the table without breaking the bank. That’s how the idea first came to me- a fresh food delivery service that has the highest quality foods at affordable prices.

What aspect of this project is most exciting for you?

There are so many. If I have to pick one, it is using technology to help people “group-order” with other users so that they can get the best price from the farms. It is most exciting because it will allow the small family farms to sell their produce in bulk to end consumers while enabling families to enjoy good foods at wholesale prices. It’s a win-win!

What challenges have you faced by starting during the pandemic?

It is a unique timing to start a business as both consumers and businesses are having very different needs compared to pre-covid times. We don’t have any playbook to follow. Our main challenge is to establish a model that works both during the pandemic and after covid ends. Some other challenges include not being able to host offline events or engage with the local offline communities we want to engage with.

Have you always been an entrepreneur?

Before Bringx I had several side projects. The very first one was a handmade jewelry booth I set up on my college campus when I was 19. I would go buy pearls and metal pieces at wholesale and handmade antique earrings and necklaces to sell on campus. I quickly realized it was not a scalable model. I still have some unsold pearl necklaces with me now.

What’s the biggest obstacle you’re facing right now?

We are working on building the technology to let the farmers update their product listings directly. It will be a three-sided app- the food suppliers, shoppers, and drivers will all have their own app. We are no there yet but what we always do is to give farmers full control and give shoppers an easy way to shop for sustainable foods.

What do you recommend for people trying Bringx for the first time?

We recommend trying out our organic medium bag, which includes 7-11 lbs of in-season fresh organic produce from our farmer partners.
