Burna Boy Makes History At The Hollywood Bowl As The First African Performer To Headline And Sell Out The Iconic Venue
Last night the Grammy Award winning rapper and singer, Burna Boy, reached another milestone in his already impressive career with an amazing performance at the world renowned Hollywood Bowl. While he is no stranger to taking the stage or performing across the US, this stop held a much larger significance for him and for the culture. The event, put on by Duke Concept, made history not just as Burna’s first show in the iconic space, but also marked the first African-native to headline that stage and sell it out. In many ways, the performance signaled anther peak in the mainstream rise of African artists and the Afro-fusion/Afro-pop sound they have championed over the years.

After being serenaded by opening acts, UMI and Queen Naija, the crowd roared as the proclaimed African Giant took the stage backed by a band, Gangan drum ensemble, and small choir. Rocking the set from start, he played through notable tracks like “Another Story,” “On The Low,” and his latest single “Want It All ft. Polo G.” The only break in the action came as he opened up to the audience and expressed how legendary he felt being in a position to make history and that he always dreamt of performing at the Hollywood Bowl from the very beginning. All of this combined with a special drop in from Wizkid for their track “Ginger” made for a truly exceptional night. Burna Boy closed the show with a show-stopping performance of “Ye” with the crowd fully engaged singing along all the way through.
The Space Drift Tour continues in North America for a couple more date before heading oversees. Check out tickets here.
